Dear Parents,

Just a few matters for your attention:

  1. Cork Lower Harbour Main Drainage Project: The Project Team, led by Catherine Sheridan (Community Relations Manager), will be available at an Open Evening here in the School Halla on tomorrow September 30th from 5pm to 8pm. They will provide information about this project which is ongoing in a site local to Shanbally. Following correspondence they have agreed that the main pipe laying for this project will take place in July and August of 2016 to avoid disruption to Shanbally School traffic.

  1. School Rolla: As part of a new approach with the Department of Education & Skills our school Rolla must now be completed by 9.50am for each class. Please inform teachers in advance if your child will be coming to school after this time due to dental appointments etc. so that your child will not be marked absent for the whole day.

  1. Miss Kelly continues to make progress but will not now return to school until after Mid-Term. Our thoughts and best wishes are with her. Miss Nash will continue to work with her Third Class.

  1. Further to enquiries we have been notified that our Confirmation will proceed on Monday May 16th 2016. We are, of course, aware that this follows closely after our First Holy Communion and may affect families involved in both. The Diocese has a policy of rotating schools so that every few years different schools are affected. Due to the fact that our Confirmation has been switched from our assigned March slot to May it is inevitable that some schools (including us!) will have both Sacraments close together.

  1. Ms. Tuohy has sent home a note today to inform parents of 4th to 6th classes that her Computer Club is starting up again from Thursday October 1st. Please complete and return the appropriate section to register your child’s wish to join. Mrs. Tuohy will advise the children if they have secured a place by Wednesday.

  1. The parish assembly members have thanked the Fifth and Sixth Class pupils and staff who made red ribbons which were distributed at Mass on Sunday. Everybody who attended wore a red ribbon, as an expression of solidarity with the refugees of Syria and a substantial amount of money was raised at the cake / red ribbon sale. This will go to Trócaire to support their Syria appeal which is working with thousands of refugees in the Lebanon. There were several ribbons left over which children are welcome to take. There is a donation box beside the ribbons and any small donations from the pupils would be very welcome. This will then be added to the parish collection. See http://www.trocaire.org/whatwedo/emergencies/syria-emergency  for more information about the emergency in Syria.

  1. Our Parent Teacher Meetings are scheduled for Wednesday 25th and Thursday 26th November. School will finish early on those days, at 12.30 for (Jrs/Seniors+Siblings) + 12.45 for the rest of the school.

  1. We plan to hold an Open Evening on Tuesday November 3rd with a view to future enrolment. We are working on the details and will forward to you when finalised. We will ask you to promote this event to prospective parents.

Thank you,

David Nolan
